This volume includes a set of works composed in Spain during the second half of the 17th century where one can find the label "recitativo" or "recitado". It should be noted that these terms can have two meanings: either a musical form of relatively free measure, with a static bass and repeated notes in the vocal part, or a singing style that implies intonating the text in an emphatic and declamatory manner, though the music is firmly measured. What these two possibilities have in common is a way of singing that is closer to declamation.
