In the present volume we publish the opera La cautela en la amistad, y robo de las sabinas with text by Juan de Agramont y Toledo and music by Francisco Corselli. The work was premiered in the summer of 1735 at the Caños del Peral theater by the two Madrid actors companies : that of Ignacio Zerquera and that of Manuel de San Miguel. The roles were played by some of the most famous singing actresses of the time, such as Francisca de Castro, Juana Vázquez, Rita de Orozco, Isabel Vela, María Antonia de Castro, Bernarda de Villaflor and Rosa Rodríguez. The composer, Francisco Corselli, had arrived in Madrid at the end of 1733 and in 1734 was appointed music master of the Infanta Maria Teresa, to whom the printed libretto is dedicated. The playwright Juan de Agramont y Toledo was an esteemed poet at the time, not so much today, although his sainetes are considered a valuable contribution to the development of the genre.
