La soberbia abatida por la humildad de San Miguel is the only surviving oratorio by Francisco Hernández y Llana (ca. 1700-1780). The piece was composed in 1727 and premiered in Astorga (Spain). In 1728, it was performed in the church of the Congregation of San Felipe Neri in Valencia, and later in the San Felipe Neri church in Palma de Mallorca. La soberbia abatida por la humildad de San Miguel is an oratory of an allegorical nature that tells, in the form of a dialogue, the myth of the fall of the angels: the supporters of Luzbel, guided by their arrogance, rebel against God's designs and engage in a battle against San Miguel, which ends with his triumph.
