Urrede, Patiño | Misa a 8 sobre el Pange lingua Urrede

This volume includes the Misa a 8 sobre el Pange lingua de Urrede by Carlos Patiño (1600-1675), master of the Royal Chapel during the reigns of Philip IV and Charles II. This mass was thought to be lost and was only known from old inventories. However, we have discovered that a mass by Patiño, described generically as “Misa a 8” in the music catalog of the Real Biblioteca del Monasterio de El Escorial, is a “parody mass” or “imitation mass” that uses the materials of the well-known Pange lingua by Juan de Urrede (fl. 1451 - ca. 1482), who was cantor and master of the Aragonese Royal Chapel.
