Although Antonio Literes is mainly known for his theatre music, we know that he composed abundant religious music for the Royal Chapel in Madrid, as witnessed, for example, by the works preserved in the Archdiocesan Historical Archive "Francisco de Paula García Peláez" of Guatemala or the Royal Monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial. We also know that he composed an oratorio dedicated to St. Vincent interpreted in Lisbon in 1720, whose music has not been preserved. Within the Sacred works of Literes there is an interesting set of works "a facistol" (choirbook), such as the three masses published here, as well as a book of psalms, hymns and magnificats (1739), from which we have various sources.
