Two mature string quartets by Cayetano Brunetti (1744-1798) have been selected dor the present CD: the string quartet in A major L 184, composed for "divertimento di S.M.C." in 1789, that is, for King Carlos IV in the first year after his coronation, which took place on December 14, 1788, and the string quartet in A major L 187. A lesser known figure is the Sevillian composer José María Reynoso (ca.1740 -1802), tenor of the Cathedral of Salamanca. In his time he was considered one of the best composers of religious music, along with Pedro Aranaz and Diego Llorente. Among his six string quartets, No. 5 in E flat major has been selected for this CD.
