Juan Pedro Almeida Mota was born in 1744 in Lisbon. Around 1767 he traveled to Braga to work in the service of the archbishop Gaspar de Bragança. Between 1771 and 1793 he held various posts in the musical chapels of the cathedrals of Santiago de Compostela, Mondoñedo, Lugo and Astorga. That year he was called to occupy the position of Maestro de rudimentos of the Real Colegio de Niños Cantores de Madrid, a position he held until 1808, once the capital was occupied by Napoleonic troops. He died in Madrid in 1813.

Published in the present volume are the XII divertimenti for voice and piano, whose autograph source is preserved today in the cathedral of Astorga. The texts of the divertimenti are taken, for the most part, from the Canzonette italiane by Vicente Martín y Soler (1754-1806), whose authorship is due to the famous playwright Carlo Goldoni (1707-1793).
